Have you given up on taking trips altogether because you can't bear to leave your dog behind? Those days are over! Numerous dog-friendly accommodations, including hotels, motels, and inns, now welcome our canine companions, with some even catering specifically to them. That's why we've compiled a list of pet-friendly hotels throughout New England. But what does 'dog-friendly' really mean?
It's a pertinent question and an important one to consider before booking your stay. After all, 'friendly' is a relative term. Not all lodging establishments define dog-friendly accommodations the same way, so it's crucial to do your research and ask the right questions before making any commitments. We've put together a helpful list of questions to kickstart your inquiry.
It goes without saying, but we’ll say it anyway – BE A GOOD GUEST! This means:
- Follow the rules and restrictions of the place you're staying.
- Always, always, always pick up your dog's poop – anywhere, everywhere, all the time!
- Keep your dog leashed on the property and in designated areas as required. It's respectful to the management and other guests who may not be as comfortable with animals as you are.
- Keep your pet off of the furniture.
- Never, ever, ever leave your dog alone in the room, as they may get scared and could scratch, bark, whine, or howl.
Being a good guest ensures that you and the rest of us can continue to enjoy a variety of great places to travel with dogs. It only takes one bad incident to quickly change a dog-friendly experience into an unfriendly one!
We will continue to update our list as we discover new pet-friendly hotels. For now, we've chosen not to include large chains; it’s nothing personal. We thought we’d start by supporting smaller, local businesses. Many chains do allow pets, so be sure to check their websites. Let us know if we missed your favorite spot for Spot!
